A garden can be a place of beauty, but also a place of instinct, tension and transformation.
For "Your garden has teeth", Evelina Kholod creates a world in which the unfamiliar and the unsettling become part of an ordinary social landscape. Together with dancers and co-creators Avah Painter and Tina Marschner, she explores the spaces between instinct and social convention. Bodies merge, separate and collide; movement shifts between repetition and disruption, intimacy and distance.
My photographs follow these fleeting moments of connection and friction. Rather than documenting the dance performance as a sequence, I was interested in the spaces between gestures — in the tension of bodies, the ambiguity of encounters, and the strange familiarity of something that should feel foreign.
A visual exploration of instinct, contrast and the fragile boundaries between the individual and the collective.
